Interactive Remote Training provided online by NetCost Learning Center

Why get trained at NetCost Learning center?

There are many great technical training facilities at various locations in the country, so why take one of the trainings offered by the NetCost Learning Center?
While we offer packaged trainings just like other companies do, we also tailor our courses or even build 100% custom ones based on individual needs.

For instance, if the position you are applying for requires a specific skill you currently do not have, we will work with you to make sure you master the skill to meet the job qualifications.

Another example: if you are assigned a work task in an area, in which you have little or no expertise, we will teach you just the right set of techniques necessary to get started and coach you through the successful job completion.

In response to the high demand for our training programs, we are launching an online learning program.  The online program curriculum and cost will be the same as those of the regularly taught ones, but offer more flexibility to the trainees.

Why go remote:

  • In many parts of the country face to face training is not available due to the lack of trainers.
  • Cost of tools needed to make remote training possible is minimal compared to the cost of travel.

Our goal is to provide trainees with an ability to use the Internet for real-time interactive training. Such training is a great alternative to the traditional face to face training and provides a cost effective way to deliver the world of knowledge right to the customer's home.

Introduction

In recent years the Internet has undoubtedly become a vehicle to carry on remote education, a strong alternative to the traditional brick and mortar educational institutions.

This form of real-time training is similar to the widely used remote classroom-type education, where the video and audio input of the lecturer are transmitted to a remote classroom and shown on a television set, then the students save their questions to later ask the lecturer. The use of real-time remote education is beneficial in cases where the trainer or students are not able to be physically present at the training facility or when flexible schedule has to be accommodated. One of the major difficulties of remote training is time zone difference between the trainer and trainee(s). Best scenario is for the instructor to deliver the training session from home in the evening, using a laptop computer connected to a high-speed Internet service provider. The trainee(s) would then attend the session either from a training facility or from their homes using their laptop computers connected to high speed internet.

Communication requirements:

High Speed Internet with download speed 1MB/s or higher and upload speed 256KB/s or higher.

Screen-sharing Software: WebEx, NetMeeting or alike software can be used to share Trainer's computer with trainee(s). With screen-sharing software trainer starts the program on trainer's computer. The students then follow the simple instructions to access the instructor's computer through the internet.

Audio Communication
Verbal communication is crucial for the understanding of the training sessions.
The simplest way is to use phone conferencing, but other solutions are available such as using computer's speaker's and microphone via one of messaging software such as Windows Live, Yahoo IM, AOL, Skype or others.

Video Communication
It is important to be able to establish a visual contact between the trainer and trainee(s).
Webcam in conjunction with one of messaging software such as Windows Live, Yahoo IM, AOL, Skype, etc. is cost effective, yet reliable solution.

Firewall
Most computers nowadays run Security software with built-in firewall that proved to be a major hurdle preventing the use of many software tools. Our helpdesk technicians are ready to assist trainees to resolve such issues as needed.

 Factors to Consider: Speed

The software module works by sending an image of the instructor's PC screen over the Internet. Some compression is used and often only an image of the part of the screen that is updated is sent. The main determining factor is the speed of the Internet traffic, which could be quite variable. For a simple PowerPoint lecture with no images to transfer, a dial-up line at 56K is adequate. The demand is much higher for interactive screen sharing, where the trainee controls the trainer's PC. In this case the keystroke has to be transmitted, and the delay of the typed character is noticeable even with the fastest Internet connection, and both sides have to adjust to this delay. The response speed could also depend significantly on the particular software.

Many Web-conference software programs mentioned in Screen-sharing Software (above) incorporate both audio and video features. Alternatively, there are independent software packages that could be run in parallel with the screen-sharing software.

Quality of video

Because of the large amount of data required for video communication, the quality is not perfect (e.g., NetMeeting has a resolution of only 176 pixels x 144 pixels). The delay and discontinuity of the image transmission is quite obvious, although with high speed Internet the quality is better. Despite the relatively low quality of the video transmission, the images are still acceptable and serve as a valuable means of feedback.

This is relatively low, with the software usually included in the Windows operating system, and the Web cam is the only cost. Video is also useful for quickly showing images not available through the screen-sharing program, eg, a piece of equipment.

Video communication is not essential, and a remote lecture could indeed be carried out without it. This could definitely be an issue if the student does not have the funding or expertise for a complicated computer set-up.
